Dental Care Tips

The following information is ment as a guideline. You should see your dental hygienist at Orchard Park Dental to develop a plan that works for you.

Brushing Tips

. Use a soft bristled brush, preferably one with rounded, synthetic bristles.
. Replace your toothbrush approximately every two to three months or if you have a cold or flu.
. Place the bristles at a 45 degree angle to the gum line, and slide the tips of the brush under the gums.
. Gently move the toothbrush in small circles over the tooth and gums.
. Brush all the surfaces of your teeth including the outside, the inside, and the top of your teeth.
. Brush your tongue to reduce bad breath.
. Brush at least twice every day, preferably after breakfast and at bedtime.
. Brush your teeth for at least 3 minutes.
. Be careful to brush gently as hard brushing can causes gum irritation or the gums to recede.

Flossing Tips

. Wrap a sufficient amount of floss to clean all your teeth around the middle fingers of your hands.
. Hold the floss tightly, using your thumbs and forefingers, and gently guide it between your teeth. If the
Floss snaps against your gums it can cut you.
. When the floss reaches the gumline, curve it against one tooth and gently slide it into the space
between the gum and the tooth.
. Gently scrape the side of the tooth with the floss.
. Repeat this method on all your teeth.
. Move to a clean area of floss after each tooth.
